Founded in 2011 by Shari Duvall as a way to help her own son cope with PTSD, K9s for Warriors is nationwide organization dedicated to providing service canines to warriors who are suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disability (PTSD), traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma as a result of military service post 9/11. The organization’s goal is to empower our service men and women to enable them to return to civilian life with dignity and independence. The program is offered at no cost to the veteran.
Funding enables K9s for Warriors to provide dog training, warrior mentorship, warrior meals, pet supplies (leashes, vests, beds) and upkeep of warrior housing units during their three-week stay.
The organization’s goal is to give a new-leash-on-life to rescue dogs and military heroes, empowering warriors to return to civilian life with dignity and independence.
Mainstreet’s team continues to give back to our community. In addition to K9s for Warriors, we are actively involved in service organizations such as Ronald McDonald House of Dallas and Honor Flight DFW – whose mission is to honor our veterans for the sacrifices they have made to keep our nation safe by providing them with an all-expense-paid trip to visit the memorials in Washington D. C., those memorials which symbolize the spirit, sacrifice, and commitment of these American heroes.
The mission of Yappy Hour DFW is to raise awareness and support for K9s for Warriors, to honor our Veterans and to help save the lives of shelter dogs. We seek to raise funds to allow more Warriors to acquire a service dog and attend the K9s for Warriors Training Program. Our event was created for the of love dogs, to honor and support our Veterans, and our desire to make a difference in our community. Supporting K9s for Warriors is a win-win for everyone.
